HI-YU NOVEMBER 27, 2006
MEETINGS The Hi-Yu general membership meeting in December will be at 7 pm on Monday December 4th. The meeting will be a social, with goodies provided by Hi-Yu members. Hi-Yu meetings are open to the public, and if you haven’t been to a meeting in a while we encourage you to come to this one. We are issuing a special invitation to Merrill Gardens residents to join us for the party. Also, former Hi-Yu royalty are encouraged to wear their sashes. The meeting will be at Merrill Gardens at 4611 – 35th Avenue SW in West Seattle. Enter at the main door on 35th, sign in at the desk on the special Hi-Yu sheet, take the elevator down to level P-1, and go to the Activities Room. If you arrive after 7 pm, you have to ring the bell to be let into the building. Parking is on the street.
ORNAMENTS Specially designed limited edition Hi-Yu ornaments are for sale now. The ornaments are red and white and were designed and made by Glasshouse Studio artist Christopher Sternberg-Powidzki. There are three designs, and each ornament is only $20.00. The ornaments will be available for sale at the Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast on December 2nd and the Hi-Yu meeting on December 4th. You can also contact Danette Carufel at 935-6517 or danettecarufel@hotmail.com to order ornaments. A picture of the ornaments is attached to the e-mail version of this newsletter.
COMMITTEES There is still room on every committee, as well as positions available to be a committee chairperson. Committee work is a great opportunity to share your existing skills or learn new ones.
HI-YU ROYALTY PROFILES
Senior Court: Queen Trisha Thompson is away at school, but her parents reported on her behalf. She is not enjoying the cold in Illinois, but is keeping busy working on a home with Habitat for Humanity and being a big sister to an elementary school girl. She will be on break from school from the middle of November until the beginning of January, and will be traveling around the country.
Princess Keili Geller is busy with her senior year of high school. She just finished performing in “Grease, the Musical”, and is coaching cheerleading.
Junior Court: Queen Gabrielle Carufel recently took her first trip to Disneyland and had a great time.
Princess Haley Pierce and Princess Hailey Miller are keeping busy with holiday activities.
FLOAT There were many wonderful ideas proposed. After discussion and brainstorming a theme was selected - - but it lacks a name. The concept is fantasy nautical with suggestions such as mermaids, seahorses, clam shells, pearls, treasure chest, shipwreck, etc. Name this theme for the December meeting.
We need space to work on building the float for this year. Let the Hi-Yu officers know if you have any ideas for a work space.
FUNDRAISING IDEAS NEEDED The heading says it all. Bring your ideas to a meeting or talk to a board member.
