NEWS DETAILS FOR: January 2007 Newsletter
POSTED: Tuesday, January 30, 2007
BY: Peter Richards
SUMMARY: January 2007 Newsletter
WEST SEATTLE HI-YU
PEARLS OF THE SEA”
January 29, 2007

MEETINGS

The Hi-Yu general membership meeting in February will be on Monday at 7 pm on February 5th.  The meeting will be at Merrill Gardens at 4611 – 35th Avenue SW in West Seattle.  Enter at the main door on 35th, sign in at the desk on the special Hi-Yu sheet, take the elevator down to level P-1, and go to the Activities Room.  If the door is locked to the building, you have to ring the doorbell to the right of the main door to be let into the building.  Parking is on the street.

BUTTON DESIGN

It is not too late to get your button designs in.  The theme for the design is “Pearls of the Sea”.  The deadline for submission is February 26th.  Submissions should be in color and approximately 2 ½” diameter, which is the size of the actual buttons we will be making.  The words “Pearls of the Sea” and “West Seattle Hi-Yu 2007” should be included on the button.  Members will vote for their favorite design at the March 5th meeting.  A prize will be awarded for the winning design.

 VALENTINES TEA

A tea will be held on Saturday, February 10th from 12-3 pm at the Alki Homestead Restaurant.  There will be a silent auction at the tea, with many wonderful items to bid on.  I hope you already got your tickets, because it is sold out!  Thank you to all who bought tickets and who provided items for the silent auction or the tea, and a huge thank you to Danette Carufel for organizing this event.

FLOAT

We had our first float planning meetings, and we are ready to start making the decorations for the float.  If you want to be notified of work parties for the float, send an e-mail to Karen Haynes-Palmquist at karenhaynesp@yahoo.com and ask to be added to the e-mail notice list.

At this time we can use smaller work spaces (garages, workshops, etc.) to work on the decorations for the float, so if you have space available for a small work party let me know.   We also need space for storage of materials and decorations.

We haven’t found space yet to work on the float itself.  It is critical that we do so soon.   A large space is required when we start installing the decorations on the float.  Let the Hi-Yu officers know if you have any ideas for a work space.
