MEETINGS

The Hi-Yu general membership meeting for August will be on Monday, November 5th at 7 pm at Merrill Gardens at 4611 – 35th Avenue SW in West Seattle.  Enter at the main door on 35th, sign in at the desk on the special Hi-Yu sheet, take the elevator down to level P-1, and go to the Activities Room.  If the door is locked to the building, you have to ring the doorbell to the right of the main door to be let into the building.  Parking is on the street.

COMMITTEES

The Senior Court Scholarship Program advisory committee presented its final report and recommendations.  Changes to the program and the standing rules are expected to be voted on at the November meeting. The advisory committee for the Junior Court Program also presented its final report. The advisory committees for the Float Program and Members/Marketing Program presented initial reports, and will be continuing to work on recommendations for changes to the Programs.  Changes under consideration for the Float Program are a new float body and covered trailer.  The Marketing committee is designing a brochure for use in promoting Hi-Yu in the community.

HI-YU ROYALTY

Senior Court:  Queen Sivona Lingle is happy to have progressed from candidate to royalty, and looks forward to representing Hi-Yu this year.

Junior Court:

Queen Danica Tongol is looking forward to the coming year of Hi-Yu activities.

Princess India Gants is 11 and is a student at Holy Rosary.

Princess Leah McFadden is 11 and is a student at Mount View Elementary.

Princess Vanessa Radke was ill and not able to attend the meetings, so we will catch up with her next time.

Princess Ally Warnke is 8 and is a student at Hope Lutheran.

FLOAT

Due to mechanical difficulties the “Pearls of the Sea” float was not able to participate in the Salmon Days Parade in Issaquah on October 6th.

A float tear down work party will be organized soon, so we can more easily work on mechanical issues, and to get the float ready to attach the details for next year’s float.  Let us know if you want to help.  While some of the items are saved from year to year, many are thrown away at the end of each year.  If you are interested in any of the décor from the float please let us know.  Many of the fish designers have already claimed their “catch”, but there are still a few unclaimed fish and some other items.

Bring your ideas for a theme for this year to the November meeting to present at the meeting.  You don’t have to have a full design for the float, but you will need to present a name and general idea of what it would include.  We will be discussing and then choosing a theme by membership vote at the same meeting.  You must be an individual member or official representative of a service club member in order to vote, so join now!
